The CEO of a prominent new anti-sexual harassment organization abruptly resigned after her own son was accused of sexual assault.

Lisa Borders stepped down last week within 24 hours of telling the leadership of Time’s Up about the allegations against her 36-year-old son. The president and first CEO of the group, which came out of the #MeToo movement, she had been on the job for just three months.

Borders and Time’s Up announced that she was leaving in a joint statement posted to Instagram Monday, but they did not mention the reason. Only on Thursday, after the Los Angeles Times reported on the sexual assault allegations, did Time’s Up release a second statement admitting why Borders had resigned.

“All of our actions were fully guided by our support for survivors,” the second statement said.

Borders, a former WNBA president, told Time’s Up that she planned to aggressively defend her son, which put her at odds with the group’s stated ethos of believing women who claim sexual abuse, according to The Washington Post.

An unnamed Santa Monica woman told the Los Angeles Times that Borders’ son, a self-described life coach named Garry “Dijon” Bowden Jr., gave her a sexually inappropriate “healing session,” which left her surprised and feeling “violated.” She accused him of touching her genitals, kissing her neck, and brushing his erect penis against her body through his clothes.

Bowden Jr.’s lawyer, Alan Jackson, disputed the woman’s version of events. He shared with The Post text messages that Bowden and the woman exchanged after the session in which the woman thanked his client for the “gentle and authentic loving.”

In an interview with InStyle last month, Borders described her son as her version “2.0,” a “better version [of me] than I would ever be: more competent, confident and compassionate.”

Times’s Up, which has its own hashtag, was founded last year by women in the increasingly woke entertainment industry . The group been touted by Hollywood actresses at awards shows, with some walking the red carpet wearing black and a Time’s Up pin accompanied by survivors of sexual assault.

The Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund, housed by the National Women’s Law Center Fund, has helped employees and McDonald’s and Walmart file sexual harassment claims and dispersed about $750,000 in grants to nonprofits that work with low-wage workers who have alleged sexual harassment and workplace retaliation.

In January, the group launched an initiative – #TimesUpX2 and #4PercentChallenge – to get Hollywood studios to commit to hiring women as directors and to double the number of female leaders in other industries.

California State Senator wants to lengthen the statue of limitations for rape

ter wrenching testimony that included accounts from three alleged victims of comedian Bill Cosby, a Senate committee on Tuesday gave its first approval to a bill that would allow sex crimes to be prosecuted no matter how long ago they occurred.

The bill, SB 813, from state Sen. Connie Leyva (D-Chino), eliminates the current 10-year statute of limitations on rape cases. Leyva argued in the hearing that giving sexual assault victims more time to report incidents would hold more rapists accountable and provide closure to painful situations.

“A victim should always have the hope that they will be able to have justice,” Leyva said.

The accusations against Cosby provided a direct example of what the bill seeks to change. In recent years, more than 50 women have accused Cosby of sexually abusing them in incidents that, in some cases, were alleged to have occurred decades ago. District attorneys across the country have cited statutes of limitations as a reason they can’t pursue charges against Cosby, though he does face prosecution in Pennsylvania over an alleged incident in 2004. Cosby has denied all wrongdoing.

Lili Bernard, a Los Angeles actress who appeared on "The Cosby Show," testified that Cosby mentored her as a father figure before drugging her, suffocating her with a pillow and raping her in the 1990s. Bernard said she went to Atlantic City, N.J., where one of the alleged incidents occurred, with evidence of the crime and was told she had missed the deadline to file charges by a few months.

“War criminals, no matter how many decades have passed, cannot evade prosecution,” Bernard told the Senate committee. “I am asking you to do the same thing for us, rape survivors, who survived the war upon our body.”

Also speaking in favor of the bill were Victoria Valentino, a former Playboy model who alleged Cosby drugged and raped her at an apartment in the Hollywood Hills in 1969; a woman identified before her testimony as “Kacey," who worked with Cosby and said the actor sexually assaulted her 20 years ago in Bel-Air; and high-profile attorney Gloria Allred, who represents 30 Cosby accusers.

Opponents of the bill said during the 90-minute debate in the Senate Committee on Public Safety that the measure doesn’t address the core problems surrounding rape prosecution. They argued that law enforcement agencies aren't as aggressive as they could be in going after alleged rapists, citing a recent state audit that found that many existing rape kits hadn't been tested. The opponents, which included the California Public Defenders Assn. and some victims rights groups, also warned of an increased chance for wrongful convictions, given the length of time that might have passed after an incident.

“When decades pass between prosecution and a criminal offense, memories fade, witnesses die, evidence is lost,” said Natasha Minsker, director of the California chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. “And it becomes impossible for a person accused of a crime to defend himself or herself.”

California is not the first state to weigh changing its statute of limitations on sexual assaults in the wake of the allegations against Cosby. Last year, Nevada lawmakers increased the statute of limitations for rape prosecutions from four years to 20 years after a Cosby accuser pushed for the change.

Leyva’s bill would not result in Cosby’s prosecution in California for any previous allegations. The bill would only apply to crimes committed after Jan. 1, 2017, or to incidents where the statute of limitations hadn’t run out by that date. The bill now moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

This bill is good example of a bad idea. What it will do is destroy the rights of every man accused of rape 15-20 years down the line. It must be fully opposed. If you are a California resident or someone who is registered to vote in California then contact your Senator and let them know you oppose SB 813 and that you want them to oppose it.If you live in California Senator Connie Leyva's district let her know that she is wrong and that she needs to respect the statue of limitations.

Statist loses election but wants to be Secretary of State

The good news: Congressman Howard Berman -- one of the lead supporters of SOPA -- lost his re-election bid last week. The bad news: The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Berman is being considered as the replacement for Hillary Clinton when she steps down as Secretary of State in coming weeks. That would mean that he'd play a key role in developing global Internet policy! Please add your name at right to tell President Obama and the Senate that Berman has no place being considered for Secretary of State. Berman has spent decades representing Southern California, and has been one of the biggest shills for Hollywood and other forces that seek to censor the Internet: He was one of the original sponsors of SOPA, and unlike so many others who had the sense to wiithdraw their support after the Internet cried out, Berman has never backed down. But now the LA Times reports:

Berman, who has been chairman and ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, is among those now mentioned by U.S. officials as a possible replacement for Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton when she departs next year.

If the United States really cares about global Internet freedom, there couldn't be a worse pick for Secretary of State than Berman, who's repeatedly tried to censor the web at Hollywood's behest -- and Hollywood's been leading a global charge to clamp down on Internet freedom. Let's put Obama and the Senate on notice.

Last week we got rid of this statist asshole through democratic means but we could end up stuck with him if we don't let Obama and our senators know that we don't want him. If he is a big SOPA supporter I don't want him anywhere near the controls for the internet. Let's tell Congress about the Brian Banks situation

Brian Banks, a star high school football player, was falsely accused of rape by a female acquaintance. Banks served five years in prison and was required to register as a sex offender. The accuser received a $1.5 million settlement from the school.

Last year, Banks logged onto Facebook and had a friend request from his accuser, Wanetta Gibson!

Private investigator Freddie Parish hid two cameras to record statements by Gibson when she met with Banks in the investigator's office. "Did he rape you?," asked Parish. "No," Gibson said, "he did not rape me." "All that money they gave us, I mean gave me, I don't want to have to pay it back, all of it, because that would take a long time," Gibson said on camera.

A judge overturned Banks' conviction. One month later, Stop Abusive and Violent Environments (SAVE) is charging Los Angeles County prosecutors with unacceptable delay in filing perjury charges against Gibson. A vigorous prosecution of Gibson is critical to restoring the credibility of true rape victims.
