Senator McConnell says gender is not an issue in the 2016 election

SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The Senate's top Republican said Monday the "gender card alone" won't be enough to propel Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton to the White House.
"I don't think arguing 'vote for me because I'm a woman' is enough," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said while sizing up next year's presidential race during a speech in his home state of Kentucky. "You may recall my election last year. The gender card alone is not enough."
In 2014, McConnell's Democratic challenger, Alison Lundergan Grimes, claimed the longtime Republican incumbent was insensitive on gender issues such as pay equity. McConnell trounced Grimes in the election, capitalizing on President Barack Obama's deep unpopularity in Kentucky.
McConnell said Monday there are millions of Americans who want a woman as president.
"The question is, a woman president to do what?" he said. "And I think inevitably, Hillary Clinton's campaign will be four more years of the last eight."
McConnell said Clinton, his former Senate colleague, is smart and capable but added there's "not a dime's worth of difference between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in terms of policy." He said he expects she will be the Democratic nominee.
"She's going to run straight left, just like the president did," McConnell said. "And their gamble is that the country is farther left than it used to be."
He called it a flawed strategy that the Republican presidential nominee can exploit.
"I think our nominee ought to say something like this: 'She's right, if you're happy with the last eight years, she's your candidate. But if you think America can do better by taking a different path, I'm your choice,'" McConnell said.
While McConnell discussed next year's presidential race during a speech in which he condemned Obama's record on an array of domestic and foreign policy issues, the senator was silent on this year's pivotal race for governor in his home state.
Later, McConnell told reporters the lack of comments about this year's top-of-the-ticket election in Kentucky wasn't a slight toward GOP nominee Matt Bevin, his one-time rival. Bevin, a Louisville businessman, last year tried but failed to wrest away McConnell's Senate seat in a bruising Republican primary.
"I certainly am enthusiastically supporting the nominee of our party," McConnell said. "I think we have an excellent chance of winning."
Bevin faces Democratic Attorney General Jack Conway in November.
Current Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear is in his second term and can't serve again because of term limits

I think it is great to see one of our elected officials stand up to feminist bullies. I'm going to contact him and thank him for taking a pro-male stance. Talk about a ball buster.
An Indiana man was rushed to the hospital Wednesday after his scrotum was the victim of a vicious attack by an ex-girlfriend, The Smoking Gun reports.
The victim told police that his former girlfriend, Christina Reber, stormed into his apartment as he was innocently sitting at his computer. Reber, with whom he had severed ties a few days earlier, first struck him on the head and then grabbed his scrotum and began “squeezing as hard as she could.” Naturally, he told officers that he “was in incredible pain when [she] grabbed his scrotum and began digging in her fingers.”
The police report indicates that the scrotum area was “completely torn loose from his body.” Reber reportedly “refused to let go of his scrotum,” but the victim was finally able to remove his balls from her vice-like grip.
As if the story isn’t already good enough, the victim, who has not been identified, was taken to BALL MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. As far as we know, the hospital is not only for scrotum-specific injuries…

Why This Is Important
Taylor Bigler, Entertainment Editor of The Daily Caller has written an article about the sexual mutilation and abuse of a man at the hands of his ex-girlfriend. In writing this article, Ms. Bigler somehow found this man’s horrific injuries which may have caused permanent damage and the crime committed against him by his ex-girlfriend to be a humorous and positive event. If the genders were reversed and a man ripped the breast from a woman’s body, would Ms. Bigler have made comments such as “As if this story isn’t already good enough….” Good enough? So Ms. Bigler finds some good out of this poor man’s sexual mutilation. Daily Caller article
We ask that Taylor Bigler resign from The Daily Caller or be fired by them. Nothing short of Ms. Bigler’s resignation or firing will suffice.
I guess as Entertainment Editor, Ms. Bigler finds this type of abuse entertaining and humorous. This incident’s reporting is no place for jokes, puns and other light-hearted comments. This is a severe domestic violence incident. We who sign this petition are tired of the media making light of domestic violence when the perpetrator is a woman and the victim is a man. First we see The Talk call the drugging, tying up and cutting off of a man’s penis by his ex as “fabulous” and now we hear Ms. Bigler call the removal of a man’s scrotum as “good”. ” As if this story isn’t already good enough….”? The only thing good enough for Ms. Bigler is her removal from The Daily Caller permanently. A public apology from The Daily Caller is also in order for publishing this misandric article. Any of the people signing this petition will also be unsubscribing from The Daily Caller if they are subscribers.

More fighting VAWA

The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is up for reauthorization. Since it was first introduced in 1994, this nice-sounding bill has been described as the solution to domestic violence. And most people believed that claim, as evidenced by it's 2005 reauthorization.
That all changed once Stop Abusive and Violent Environments (SAVE) and victims' groups started educating the public and staffers on Capitol Hill about the problems with VAWA.
SAVE wants accountability added to stop the misuse of grant monies. We want restrictions removed so advocates can open shelters primarily for abused men. And, among other things, we want accreditation to be mandatory, to stop the widespread promotion of inaccurate "facts."
Today we're asking you to call Kelly Ayotte, a senator from New Hampshire who is committed to upholding the Constitution. Please ask her to vote NO on VAWA. You can call Sen. Ayotte at her Washington DC office: 202-224-3324

To the Editor:
“Republicans Retreat on Domestic Violence” (editorial, Feb. 10) doesn’t recognize the reasons for the lack of support for the Judiciary Committee bill to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. The bill fails to recognize the dire fiscal situation, fails to ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and adds unjustifiable controversial provisions.
My alternative bill provides more assistance for victims than the bill reported by the Judiciary Committee. The inspector general’s random audits of the act’s grant recipients repeatedly found irregularities and misconduct, including unauthorized and unallowable expenses in 21 of 22 grants. It’s only logical to change the committee’s bill to ensure that those funds go to help victims.
Also, the committee’s bill fails to address testimony at a hearing demonstrating that some immigrants applying for visas falsely claim to be victims of domestic violence.
I object to the editorial’s claim that my bill would eliminate the Office on Violence Against Women. Given the poor record of that office in administering these programs efficiently, my bill retains a separate Office on Violence Against Women within an existing Justice Department agency that administers grants. This means that less money is spent on bureaucrats, leaving more funds for victims.
Democrats have insisted on inserting controversial items into the act for which there is no proven need. In doing so, they have prevented Congress from strengthening it as a consensus bill and turned a routine reauthorization into an unnecessary dispute.

There is no mention of male victims of domestic violence. That is what is missing. Why is that? Let's contact Senator Chuck Grassley and ask why not. I think it's admirable to make those receiving VAWA money to be held accountable but let's not forget the already forgotten victims of domestic violence,men. Let's put that question to Senator Grassley.

NCFM Vice President Marc Angelucci, Esq., represented the plaintiffs in the landmark domestic violence case Woods v. Horton (“Woods”). Consequently, in 2008, the California Supreme Court decided domestic violence services providers had to provide services to men as well as women. To our knowledge there has been little or no effort on behalf of the state of California or domestic violence service providers to comply substantively with the court ruling.
The California Emergency Management Agency oversees domestic violence service providers receiving state funds. The attached public records request from Mr. Angelucci, on behalf of the National Coalition For Men, to the Emergency Management Agency, requests substantial information necessary to answer compliance questions.
Thank you Marc. This is a major undertaking. For you non NCFM members, well… saddle up my friends, we still have a long way to go. Thanks to those like Marc your journey may not be as dangerous as was David’s and his family…

This past Saturday SAVE launched our Accusing U. campaign at the International Students for Liberty Conference in Washington D.C. It was a complete success -- the room was filled to capacity, barely leaving room to stand. Several students volunteered to become Campus Coordinators.

Update on Tom Martin
Do you remember Tom Martin,the man who is suing London School of Economics for gender discrimination. The following is update on his case:

Tom Martin’s sex discrimination lawsuit against Europe’s largest gender studies department at The London School of Economics (LSE) has been delayed, a hearing now rescheduled for March 13th. Tom has given an interview for a programme on satellite news channel Press TV on ‘the future of feminism’, which awaits broadcast, and also, has recently been invited to take part in a debate at University College London (UCL), on the prevalence of misandry in academia and society, a date not yet set. Tom invites all other press and media to contact him directly: sexismbusters@hotmail.com.
Tom thanks all 120 people from 9 countries who have now donated a total of £4013.25 to the legal fighting fund so far, and asks supporters to keep the donations coming in and the momentum going, by subscribing on twitter, Facebook and YouTube, and spreading the word in any other way they can for what could be a long, difficult, but ultimately game-changing awareness-raising and legal campaign.

Tom Martin v LSE’s Gender Institute: Update
Tom Martin’s sex discrimination lawsuit against Europe’s largest gender studies department at The London School of Economics (LSE) has been delayed, a hearing now rescheduled for March 13th. Tom has given an interview for a programme on satellite news channel Press TV on ‘the future of feminism’, which awaits broadcast, and also, has recently been invited to take part in a debate at University College London (UCL), on the prevalence of misandry in academia and society, a date not yet set. This week SAVE is introducing a new campaign to combat the Department of Education's Directive regarding rape and sexual assault on college campuses across the nation.
The DED has lowered its standard of what constitutes probable cause when an allegation of a sexual assault is reported. Here's an example; if you have a drink with a woman and then become intimate, you are now at risk of being charged with rape if she later regrets her decision.
Accusing U. is a new campaign developed by SAVE, aimed at reversing the government's directive and educating students across the country on this new assault on students' rights.

Tell the Senate to go with Senator Grassley's Amendment;VAWA
Last Thursday the Senate Judiciary Committee voted Sen. Leahy's version of the Violence Against Women Act out of committee with ten votes for and eight against. This was after Sen. Charles Grassley unsuccessfully proposed an amendment that would have added accountability and other improvements.

Komen Foundation vs. Planned Parenthood
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Breast cancer charity Susan G. Komen for the Cure on Thursday denied political pressure from anti-abortion groups had anything to do with its decision to cut off funding for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, trying to contain a crisis between the two leading women's health groups.
In a 3-1/2 minute video statement posted on its website and the video site YouTube, the Komen foundation said critics have mischaracterized its decision to deny new money to Planned Parenthood and warned the controversy could distract attention from the struggle against breast cancer.
"We will never bow to political pressure," Komen founder Nancy Brinker said in the video.
"The scurrilous accusations being hurled at this organization are profoundly hurtful to so many of us," she said. "But more importantly, they are a dangerous distraction from the work that still remains to be done in ridding the world of breast cancer."
The Komen foundation, known for its pink ribbon symbol and Race for the Cure fundraisers, has collected more than $1.9 billion for breast cancer research and programs. It has affiliates in more than 100 U.S. cities and 50 countries.
Planned Parenthood provides abortion, birth control and other health services to women. It had received about $700,000 annually from Komen to provide access to mammograms for low income women.
Brinker said the funding change reflects a new internal strategy aimed at using donation money more effectively by eliminating duplicate grants and tightening eligibility rules.
That includes withholding funding from a group under investigation by U.S. authorities. Republican lawmaker Cliff Stearns is probing Planned Parenthood over its use of taxpayer funds.
"Regrettably, this strategic shift will affect any number of long-standing partners. But we have always done what is right for our organization, for our donors and volunteers," she said.
UPROAR ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Planned Parenthood said the Komen foundation had succumbed to political pressure from anti-abortion groups. It said such groups have repeatedly threatened Komen over its affiliation.
The decision set off an uproar among Komen supporters who also back Planned Parenthood, as evidenced by tens of thousands of comments on social media sites Facebook and Twitter.
"Susan Komen would not give in to bullies or fear. Too bad the foundation bearing her name did," writer Judy Blume, known for her books on girls growing up, said via Twitter.
Komen was Brinker's sister who died of breast cancer, inspiring the organization's creation.
Planned Parenthood, already barred from using federal funds to provide abortions, has seen the U.S. tax dollars it still receives for family aid to poor women come under intensifying Republican scrutiny in Congress.
The group has also come under attack from lawmakers in several states over the past year, including North Carolina, Indiana and Kansas, who have attempted to block state funding.
In Kansas some local prosecutors are pressing criminal charges against Planned Parenthood, alleging it failed to maintain paperwork related to the abortions it provided.
Money from Komen has helped thousands of women in rural and underserved communities get breast health education, screenings, and mammogram referrals, Planned Parenthood said in a statement.
The assistance translates into 170,000 of the 4 million clinical breast exams the group has performed over the past five years, and more than 6,400 of 70,000 mammogram referrals.
Planned Parenthood complained that Komen officials have not responded to requests to meet and talk about the decision to cut the funding.

Tomorrow, Thursday the Senate Judiciary Committee will be meeting to discuss Sen. Leahy's version of the Violence Against Women Act reauthorization. Leahy's VAWA bill contains many, many controversial provisions, and does nothing to assure real victims, and ALL victims - are helped.
At the meeting Sen. Charles Grassley will be proposing an amendment to bring the domestic violence industry to heel. The DV industry is certain to oppose these accountability measures. So please contact these members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and tell them that abuse victims are demanding that VAWA be made accountable to meet their needs.

CDC report debunked
How the CDC is overstating sexual violence in the U.S.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently released a study suggesting that rates of sexual violence in the United States are comparable to those in the war-stricken Congo. How is that possible?
The CDC’s National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey found that, in the United States in 2010, approximately 1.3 million women were raped and an additional 12.6 million women and men were victims of sexual violence. It reported, “More than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced rape, physical violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius hailed the report for giving “a clear picture of the devastating impact these violent acts have on the lives of millions of Americans.”
In fact, what the study reveals is the devastating impact that careless advocacy research can have on truth. The report proposes an array of ambitious government-sponsored “prevention strategies” and recommends “multi-disciplinary service centers” offering survivors psychological and legal counseling as well as housing and economic assistance. But survivors of sexual violence would be better served by good research and sober estimates — not inflated statistics and sensationalism.
The agency’s figures are wildly at odds with official crime statistics. The FBI found that 84,767 rapes were reported to law enforcement authorities in 2010. The Bureau of Justice Statistics’ National Crime Victimization Survey, the gold standard in crime research, reports 188,380 rapes and sexual assaults on females and males in 2010. Granted, not all assaults are reported to authorities. But where did the CDC find 13.7 million victims of sexual crimes that the professional criminologists had overlooked?
It found them by defining sexual violence in impossibly elastic ways and then letting the surveyors, rather than subjects, determine what counted as an assault. Consider: In a telephone survey with a 30 percent response rate, interviewers did not ask participants whether they had been raped. Instead of such straightforward questions, the CDC researchers described a series of sexual encounters and then they determined whether the responses indicated sexual violation. A sample of 9,086 women was asked, for example, “When you were drunk, high, drugged, or passed out and unable to consent, how many people ever had vaginal sex with you?” A majority of the 1.3 million women (61.5 percent) the CDC projected as rape victims in 2010 experienced this sort of “alcohol or drug facilitated penetration.”
What does that mean? If a woman was unconscious or severely incapacitated, everyone would call it rape. But what about sex while inebriated? Few people would say that intoxicated sex alone constitutes rape — indeed, a nontrivial percentage of all customary sexual intercourse, including marital intercourse, probably falls under that definition (and is therefore criminal according to the CDC).
Other survey questions were equally ambiguous. Participants were asked if they had ever had sex because someone pressured them by “telling you lies, making promises about the future they knew were untrue?” All affirmative answers were counted as “sexual violence.” Anyone who consented to sex because a suitor wore her or him down by “repeatedly asking” or “showing they were unhappy” was similarly classified as a victim of violence. The CDC effectively set a stage where each step of physical intimacy required a notarized testament of sober consent.
The report also called for more research on “sexism” and urged “collective action” against media messages that “objectify and degrade women.” In the familiar jargon of feminist theory, the CDC said: “It is important to continue addressing the beliefs, attitudes and messages that are deeply imbedded in our social structures.”
Why is the CDC using methods of advocacy research that are anathema to genuine social science? The answer is suggested by a posting on the White House Web site this month by Lynn Rosenthal, a presidential adviser on violence against women:
“Early in the Administration, the Vice President convened federal agencies to assess trends and identify gaps in our response to violence and abuse. We identified data collection as one of the biggest challenges we face in understanding and combatting these crime. Thanks to the hard work of [Attorney General Eric] Holder, the FBI, law enforcement leaders, and the women’s organizations who have long advocated for this change, we are one step further towards meeting that challenge.”
While that passage referred to the FBI’s recently revised definition of rape — and not the CDC survey — it shows how the study fits into the administration’s effort to apply the advocacy agenda of the women’s lobby to rape research. That would explain how feminist theory found its way into the report. But why would CDC officials, who are experienced in resisting political pressure, cooperate?
Perhaps they felt the study would draw needed attention to the genuine problem of sexual violence. That is an understandable but recklessly misguided conclusion. Faulty studies send scarce resources in the wrong directions; more programs on sexism, stereotypes and social structures, for example, are unlikely to help victims of violence. Defining sexual violence down obscures the gradations in culpability that are essential to effective criminal law, and it holds up a false mirror on our society. The CDC should recall this study.

We won
The protest against Verizon is over,we won. Under pressure Verizon conceded and removed the anti-male message from their Verizon Foundation website. The protest was successful because all of us,especially those front soldier protestors,were willing to get in Verizon's face and tell them that we are opposed to their misandry. This is proof that men's issues are viable politically and that standing together we can accomplish great things. Don't let anyone tell you different. If they do they are either misinformed or worse,lying to you.

About a week ago I received an invitation to a protest. Seems like I'm getting more invites to protests than parties this year, what with the Occupy hordes trying to get more people involved in various events. I find it ironic that now in my mid-40s, a time when I'm supposed to be driving a Corvette and dating 20-year-olds, I'm being asked to participate in the types of events that I skipped in my 20s.
One of the invitations I received was from Marc Angelucci, vice president of the National Coalition For Men. He was organizing an action Saturday in front of the Verizon store located at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and 16th Street. This was not some protest about the outrageous and deceitful sales tactics of a corporation — well, actually it kind of was. Verizon, in conjunction with the National Domestic Violence Hotline, produced an outrageous and deceitful video about domestic violence.
Domestic violence is a major hot topic. Emotions run exceedingly high, and people on all sides of the issue have very strong, deeply entrenched opinions about the causes, the treatments, and the ongoing damage it does to families, especially children.
I come from a family where there was a lot of domestic violence. As I like to say, the "Friday Night Fights" in our house were actually in our house. If the laws then were like they were today, I'm pretty certain I would have grown up in foster care, as more and more children do today.
So when the invite came from the National Coalition For Men to attend a protest "against Verizon's sexist, anti-father ads that depict all domestic violence as committed by men and fathers against women, and that says among children who witness it, the girls grow up to be victims while the boys grow up to be abusers," I had to attend.
What I found was a group of nine men, two boys and two women of mixed races and religions, who were holding signs that read "Stop Denying Domestic Violence Batters Men" and "Verizon Vilifies Fathers" and "Why Wont The Domestic Violence Industry Recognize Women Who Batter Men?" and "Honk 4 Dad's Rights" — which caused a ton of supportive honking, even by a Verizon FiOS van!
One of the protesters had a copy of the video on his iPhone and I was able to watch the ad. In it the stereotypes of an abusive father and victim mother and child were portrayed in an artsy, animated manner that would be very attractive to young, impressionable children's minds. I was appalled when I watched it because of its portrayal of the cycle of violence. Woman/girl as victim and man/boy as abuser.
The utter lack of balance, of an acknowledgment that women can be abusers also, saddened me because I grew up in a house where the woman was as much as an aggressor as the man. I know from personal experience that a woman is just as capable of domestic violence. I learned how to knife fight from my mom, not my dad. I learned how to shred a person's ego not in law school but from listening to my mom do it to my father. She would regularly call him a coward, then berate him when he got physical with her. It was a no-win situation. She would taunt and terrorize him and then fall back on her status as a woman as why he should not defend himself.
I regularly see the same thing today in my family law practice. Men who have been taunted and terrorized by their wives or girlfriends to the point of breaking, and when they eventually do, they are considered to be the abuser. If I say, "it is their own fault," most people agree with me, "a man should never hit a woman," but few are those who will stop and reconsider their logic, and realize that it is a form of "blaming the victim" when I say that. If a man has been pushed to the point of abuse, then he is the first victim in an abusive relationship. It's just that the abuse a woman perpetrates often leaves no visible marks.
Men are rarely considered to be victims in abusive households yet the Domestic Violence Protection Act considers "disturbing the peace" of the other occupant as a basis for a restraining order removing someone from their house with almost no notice. Which is how abusive women start with men, because men are likely to "just take it" or risk being called a coward by others, especially the police, who regularly ignore the pleas of men for help because they are not bleeding.
Most shelters wouldn't take men, which is why the coalition states in their press release they "had to sue the state of California for its widespread discrimination against male victims." The lawsuit resulted in an appellate decision holding that "domestic violence is a serious problem for both women and men," that excluding male victims "carries with it the baggage of sexual stereotypes," and that it is unconstitutional to exclude male victims of domestic violence from the statutory funding provisions or from state-funded services.
I applaud the coalition for their protest on Saturday and for forcing Verizon and the National Domestic Violence Hotline to remove a damaging video, and shedding light on a topic that too few people want to discuss honestly and openly.

Earlier this month SAVE learned about the Verizon Foundation's Monster video, which only portrayed men and boys as abusive monsters, and only women and girls as victims.
Persons got mad, got up, and took action. Thousands of persons wrote emails, sent impassioned letters, and made phone calls. Some distributed flyers at Verizon stores or organized demonstrations.
Our efforts paid off...Verizon removed the video!
But the Verizon Foundation still features false DV information on its website. Verizon still has egg on its face:

The Verizon protest continues

Events have been staged in Florida, New York, California, Maryland, Wisconsin, and elsewhere. So grab your Santa hat and a handful of flyers -- click here -- and head out to your local Verizon store.
Be sure to take a couple photos on your smart-phone and email them to info@saveservices.org so we can post them here.
This is the last weekend before the Christmas holidays…the weather is going to be good in most parts of the country….let's do it for our kids!

If you are Verizon customer you may want to send in a flyer when you make your payments,that'll probably get their attention too.
