Tell Congressman Cantor about presumption of innocence when it comes to VAWA

A national survey showed most people favor reforming the Violence Against Women Act. SAVE agrees with the need for reform. We are especially concerned about VAWA's lack of presumption of innocence.

Let's do what we can to fix this. Since there are VAWA negotiations already going on, Eric Cantor needs to hear from you, ASAP! Call (202) 225-2815 and tell Congressman Cantor: "the new definition of sexual assault must be removed from the final version of VAWA!" or you can email him.

We may not have a lot of time left, so let's not waste a minute.

Let's Congressman Eric Cantor the definitions, which are originally from DOE's "dear colleague" letter, are unacceptable in VAWA and that presumption of innocence must be preserved.

A thank you from SAVE

As we celebrate the season of giving thanks we turn to you our committed e-lert activists, hardworking volunteers, dedicated staff, and generous donors to say that we couldn't do this without you. Every one of our advances is due to your commitment to our success. Thank you!

Looking for a good movie to catch this holiday season? Next Monday is the premiere of The Central Park Five, the story of the five young men who were wrongfully convicted for the 1989 rape of a jogger in Central Park. Check your theater for showtimes. You can watch the trailer below.

Thanks again for everything, from the bottom of my heart.

Tell our leaders to reform VAWA

From SAVE Services:

Have your civil rights been trampled by current abuse laws? Do you want to bring the need for reform into the public eye? For the next two weeks, you have a unique opportunity to put the domestic violence issue on the political radar screen.

Between now and Nov. 6, visit campaign townhall meetings, rallies, and events. Pass out flyers and ask the candidates if they support reform.

Visit the SAVE website for question ideas, flyers, nationwide survey results, special reports, event information, and more: http://www.saveservices.org/campaign-2012/

Have a friend take photos or video. We'd love to see them. And by all means, let us know if your question gets in the news!

You can also contact your elected leaders here to let them know about VAWA reform and how much we demand it. You can also contact Mitt Romney about this at: mitt@mittromneyforpresident.com and let him know that we will lobby for reform and we are serious. Let's do this.

Let's tell the NCADV to be inclusive of male victims of domestic violence

From SAVE Services:

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) has announced their current fundraising campaign, "Every Home a Safe Home." While SAVE agrees that every home should be safe, we are getting a little tired of their ongoing gender bias. Take a look at the t-shirt they've chosen to sell.

It's bad enough that the shirt only shows a mother and daughter, perpetuating the myth that only women and girls are victims. You should see the gender bias they've added to the website you have to visit to order the t-shirts!

The campaign on Charity52 completely disregards male victims, even in the statistics. No images of men or boys, other than t-shirt models. Not one word about abused men or boys (Half of all DV victims.)

Today we're asking you to contact NCADV. Tell them to tell the ENTIRE truth about DV. Demand that they end their gender bias!

Email Exec. Dir. Rita Smith: rsmith@ncadv.org.

While you're at it, let Charity 52 know how unhappy you are about this campaign: http://www.charity52.org/contact/

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Let's join with SAVE in educating this charity about male victims of domestic violence. Let's hit them with the facts and let them know that the abuse of men will no longer be tolerated. Let's write today.
