During today’s VAWA hearing, victims of domestic violence were repeatedly and reflexively referred to as “women” and with the female pronoun “she.” Listening to the prepared remarks, male victims were essentially invisible.

And then Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota asked Auburn Watersong of the Vermont Network Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, “For males – do you turn away male victims of domestic violence?”

And then she asked the follow-up question, “Are there more male victims now?”

Sen. Klobuchar deserves a huge “atta-girl” for making male victims visible: 1-202-224-3244
