One of my readers told me about these burglaries committed by east coast gangs are related to marijuana. The reason this is not posted on the Among Other Things blog is the following quote from Sonoma County Agricultural Commissioner Tony Linegar. Who said the following quote: “Marijuana is so valuable men are willing to kill for it,” Source.

He told me he wrote to Tony Linegar and told him how he felt about that misandric statement. I'm about to do the same. Perhaps we should all let Mr. Linegar how we feel about his institutionalized misandry.

ANGRY blokes have hit the roads for a traffic-stopping rally in support of men’s rights — on International Women’s Day.

Protesters in cars and trucks displayed signs calling for the recognition of men let down by family courts, child support or domestic violence laws.

A sign on the back of a truck in a Brisbane read, “Stop the war on dads”, while a convoy on the M1 northbound on the Gold Coast stopped traffic for about 10 minutes this morning.

The convoy blocked three lanes at Pimpama, forcing motorists to use just one lane and slowing traffic to a 5km/h crawl.

Campaign group Australian Brotherhood of Fathers has been planning the nationwide protest for weeks, calling on its 40,000 Facebook followers across the country to get in a car, motorbike or truck and spend up to an hour on the road.

Organiser Leith Erikson told news.com.au it wasn’t a deliberate decision to have the protest on International Women’s Day, but he thought it was “a good thing”.

The Brisbane-based activist said protesters had also been out on the roads in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne after the ABF came up with the idea for “rolling protests” on the nation’s motorways.

“We’ve been lobbying the government and media for four years,” he said. “We needed to take our message to the community in a different way.

“We’re raising awareness about the terrible issues of men’s suicide, broken relationships and mental health issues. Forty-two men take their lives each week in this country.

“If women believe we are stealing their thunder, let them believe that. It’s the last thing I’m worried about.”

He said he believes the “gender pay gap is a lie” and that “if women are not in top positions in business or government, it’s based on their ability to be there.”

Mr Erikson questioned why more attention was not paid to International Men’s Day on November 19.

He said he is “not anti-female” and has concerns for the rights of women too, but that men are facing a “national emergency”.

Signs at today’s protest also displayed the words “21 fathers”, referring to an ABF awareness campaign about the number of Australian dads it claims take their own lives each week because of separation or family access issues.

Its website says this figure “came about initially as anecdotal evidence” from men’s rights organisations and support groups for men dealing with self-harm and family access issues.

The organisation is focused on “improving the rights of fathers and families” and ensuring children have equal access to both parents.

Mr Erikson posted photos of vehicles stopping traffic today on Facebook and said there would be more protests across every major city to “acknowledge the on going ignorance and failures to protect our children by our state and federal families and health ministers along with the state, territory and federal Attorney-Generals (sic).”

Senator Bob Casey believes men should be women's unpaid bodyguards

And, no, the headline of this post is not an exaggeration. "U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., told a group of students, faculty and staff at the University of Pittsburgh today that male college students have an obligation to stop sexual assaults by others before they happen."

Excuse me? You mean innocent male students, who would never dream of sexually assaulting a woman, somehow have a duty to stop sexual assault because . . . they happen to be male?

But wait until you read his rationale. “'Let’s be honest, a lot of guys know when something might happen, that they have an awareness that someone in their group is predisposed to do something,' Sen. Casey told the audience of about 60. 'You need to be a man. You need to examine your conscience and ask yourself what your obligation is...what you can do to prevent this from happening.'"

Yes, let’s be honest, Senator. You're full of shit.

The premise is ludicrous. If it is true that "a lot of guys know when something might happen," the same is true for "a lot of women."

How is it that when it comes to sexual assault, college men suddenly become The Amazing Kreskin--able to read the minds of predators, but college women--so capable is every other sphere of their existence--are completely clueless and thoroughly helpless?

The reason Casey puts the onus on innocent young men is because it is verboten to ask innocent young women to take any precautions to safeguard their own well-beings when it comes to sexual assault--it is verboten to suggest that they should alter their behavior even a whit to avoid being raped. They can drink to unconsciousness in the bedrooms of men they don't know, even if this increases the statistical likelihood that they will be raped, because to counsel that they exercise even a modicum of common sense is "victim blaming."

Since we can't tell innocent young women to "be careful" without being accused of being "rape apologists," we must put the onus to keep women safe on innocent young men--who have far less ability to prevent young women from being raped than the young women who might be raped.

Get it? Neither do I.

Let's get it straight. We empower our college-aged daughters by insisting they are powerless. We make women "strong" by telling them they are Disney damsels who deserve to rescued by campus Prince Charmings who must "man up" to protect Senator Casey's daughters.

Down, down, down the rabbit hole we tumble.

Sen. Casey called sexual assault a “betrayal that plays out not solely because of the perpetrator because the rest of us don’t do something about it.”

But Senator, by "the rest of us," who do you mean, specifically? If innocent people have a responsibility to prevent rape, does that include even the potential victims?

Of course it does, but he'll never say it, folks. It would be the end of his political career.

Domestic violence is real, and in some respects worse for males when they often have difficulty being taken seriously by the criminal justice system.

Tell Senator Rubio to take falsely accused college men's rights seriously

CASA calls on colleges to "advise the victim of both the victim's rights and the institution's responsibilities regarding orders of protection, no contact orders, restraining orders, or similar lawful orders issued by the institution or a criminal, civil, or tribal court."

Ashe Schow of the Washington Examiner asked the bill's sponsors:

Will there be "support services" for the accused?
Will there be someone on campus providing them with information on what they can do to provide for their own defense?
Will they be informed of their rights, and will those rights be under the law (due process) or under campus rules?
Alex Conant, spokesman for co-sponsor Sen. Marco Rubio replied: "This bill does not address this issue."

Cleveland DJ's speak their minds

This happened a few days ago but I still want to cover it. It seems that a couple of Cleveland disc jockeys held a book burning of the controversial novel 50 shades of Grey citing "men will find themselves alone" and "it caused a divorce". Good for these guys sticking up for men and letting their views be known and for that we thank you. Women speak out on issues they are concerned about and we should do the same. My hats off to Chad Zumock and Alan Cox of WMMS for organizing this event and speaking out on men's issues.

NOW protests Limbaugh

The full force of NOW (National Organization for Wretched Hags) is coming down on Rush Limbaugh. Yep,all 7 NOW members plus Sandra Fluke so that makes 8 pissed off femihags coming after Rush. The funny part is that NOW claims to be 500,000 members strong. What happened to the rest of the 499,993? Did ACORN oversee the NOW membership drive? ACORN believes why should voting be limited to real,living citizens? Why can't the dead vote? Why can't imaginary creatures and illegal aliens? I'm sure they used these methods to inflate the membership of NOW. Let's take a look at the NOW gang,all 7 of them. I'm sure Fluke is with them in spirit or maybe she's putting her birth control to work. Who knows.



Notice the spokeswoman has no problem owning up to the fact that her gender makes most of the purchasing decisions. That didn't sound like the victimization we usually hear from NOW. No it sounded like a tool of empowerment. A tool in which they can imply the following: do as we say and nobody gets hurt. But that's the problem. Even time NOW does something men and boys get hurt and that has to change.

European versions of SOPA and PIPA:from backrooms to street protests

Together, we beat SOPA in a huge victory for internet freedom. But this Saturday, internet freedom protests are breaking out in over 200 cities across Europe. Why?

Because the companies behind SOPA are using international trade agreements as a backdoor to pass SOPA-style laws

SOPA's supporters are pushing two agreements: ACTA and TPP1. ACTA would criminalize users, encourage internet providers to spy on you, and make it easier for media companies to sue sites out of existence and jail their founders. Sound familiar? That's right, ACTA is from the same playbook as SOPA, but global. Plus it didn't even have to pass through Congress2.

TPP goes even farther than ACTA, and the process has been even more secretive and corrupt. Last weekend (we wish this was a joke) trade negotiators partied with MPAA (pro-SOPA) lobbyists before secret negotiations in a Hollywood hotel, while public interest groups were barred from meeting in the same building.3

Trade agreements are a gaping loophole, a secretive backdoor track that--even though it creates new laws--is miles removed from democracy. Trade negotiators are unelected and unaccountable, so these agreements have been very hard for internet rights groups to stop.

But now the tide is turning. Fueled by the movement to stop SOPA, anti-ACTA protests are breaking out across the EU, which hasn't ratified ACTA. The protests are having an impact: leaders in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia have backtracked on ACTA.4 Now a massive round of street protests in over 200 cities is planned for this Saturday February 11th.

We're planning an online protest this Saturday to support the protests in the streets. Why? Because together we can drive millions of emails to key decision makers--and start tipping the scales like we did on SOPA.

The Verizon Protestors:ACTIVISTS among activists

The following is from the Santa Monica Daily Press:

About a week ago I received an invitation to a protest. Seems like I'm getting more invites to protests than parties this year, what with the Occupy hordes trying to get more people involved in various events. I find it ironic that now in my mid-40s, a time when I'm supposed to be driving a Corvette and dating 20-year-olds, I'm being asked to participate in the types of events that I skipped in my 20s.

One of the invitations I received was from Marc Angelucci, vice president of the National Coalition For Men. He was organizing an action Saturday in front of the Verizon store located at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and 16th Street. This was not some protest about the outrageous and deceitful sales tactics of a corporation — well, actually it kind of was. Verizon, in conjunction with the National Domestic Violence Hotline, produced an outrageous and deceitful video about domestic violence.

Domestic violence is a major hot topic. Emotions run exceedingly high, and people on all sides of the issue have very strong, deeply entrenched opinions about the causes, the treatments, and the ongoing damage it does to families, especially children.

I come from a family where there was a lot of domestic violence. As I like to say, the "Friday Night Fights" in our house were actually in our house. If the laws then were like they were today, I'm pretty certain I would have grown up in foster care, as more and more children do today.

So when the invite came from the National Coalition For Men to attend a protest "against Verizon's sexist, anti-father ads that depict all domestic violence as committed by men and fathers against women, and that says among children who witness it, the girls grow up to be victims while the boys grow up to be abusers," I had to attend.

What I found was a group of nine men, two boys and two women of mixed races and religions, who were holding signs that read "Stop Denying Domestic Violence Batters Men" and "Verizon Vilifies Fathers" and "Why Wont The Domestic Violence Industry Recognize Women Who Batter Men?" and "Honk 4 Dad's Rights" — which caused a ton of supportive honking, even by a Verizon FiOS van!

One of the protesters had a copy of the video on his iPhone and I was able to watch the ad. In it the stereotypes of an abusive father and victim mother and child were portrayed in an artsy, animated manner that would be very attractive to young, impressionable children's minds. I was appalled when I watched it because of its portrayal of the cycle of violence. Woman/girl as victim and man/boy as abuser.

The utter lack of balance, of an acknowledgment that women can be abusers also, saddened me because I grew up in a house where the woman was as much as an aggressor as the man. I know from personal experience that a woman is just as capable of domestic violence. I learned how to knife fight from my mom, not my dad. I learned how to shred a person's ego not in law school but from listening to my mom do it to my father. She would regularly call him a coward, then berate him when he got physical with her. It was a no-win situation. She would taunt and terrorize him and then fall back on her status as a woman as why he should not defend himself.

I regularly see the same thing today in my family law practice. Men who have been taunted and terrorized by their wives or girlfriends to the point of breaking, and when they eventually do, they are considered to be the abuser. If I say, "it is their own fault," most people agree with me, "a man should never hit a woman," but few are those who will stop and reconsider their logic, and realize that it is a form of "blaming the victim" when I say that. If a man has been pushed to the point of abuse, then he is the first victim in an abusive relationship. It's just that the abuse a woman perpetrates often leaves no visible marks.

Men are rarely considered to be victims in abusive households yet the Domestic Violence Protection Act considers "disturbing the peace" of the other occupant as a basis for a restraining order removing someone from their house with almost no notice. Which is how abusive women start with men, because men are likely to "just take it" or risk being called a coward by others, especially the police, who regularly ignore the pleas of men for help because they are not bleeding.

Most shelters wouldn't take men, which is why the coalition states in their press release they "had to sue the state of California for its widespread discrimination against male victims." The lawsuit resulted in an appellate decision holding that "domestic violence is a serious problem for both women and men," that excluding male victims "carries with it the baggage of sexual stereotypes," and that it is unconstitutional to exclude male victims of domestic violence from the statutory funding provisions or from state-funded services.

I applaud the coalition for their protest on Saturday and for forcing Verizon and the National Domestic Violence Hotline to remove a damaging video, and shedding light on a topic that too few people want to discuss honestly and openly.

Earlier this month SAVE learned about the Verizon Foundation's Monster video, which only portrayed men and boys as abusive monsters, and only women and girls as victims.

Persons got mad, got up, and took action. Thousands of persons wrote emails, sent impassioned letters, and made phone calls. Some distributed flyers at Verizon stores or organized demonstrations.

Dear Ms. Perina & Psychology Today:

In the shockingly irresponsible article "Sweet Revenge" (Psychology Today, January/February 2010), Regina Barreca, Ph.D. praises convicted Texas killer Clara Harris for her "great moment of revenge." The act for which Barreca praises Harris? In 2002, Harris repeatedly ran over her ex-husband David, as David's daughter Lindsey sat in the front seat of the car begging Clara Harris not to kill her father.

While Barreca praises Clara Harris, Lindsey, who loved her father and was only 16 years old at the time of the killing, publicly denounced Clara Harris for "the ultimate act of selfishness, caring only about obtaining revenge and thinking not one bit about how her horrible act was going to affect me or my brothers, Brian and Bradley. Anyone who shared my ride in the car that evening, seeing my dad’s face as he was about to be hit, and experiencing the horrible feel of the car bumping over his body would understand that this murderess deserves no sympathy.”

Lindsey says that Clara mistreated and neglected David, and that her father often confided in her how lonely he felt. Coupled with Clara’s temper and evident capacity for violence, David had ample reason to want to get out of the relationship. Instead of letting him go, Clara killed him. Does Psychology Today feel this is praiseworthy?

Besides condoning violence, Barreca's article also reeks of gender bias. The majority of divorces are initiated by women, not by men, and research shows that women's decision to divorce often catches their husbands by surprise. These men don't just lose their wives, they often lose their children, too, and their rationale for feeling betrayed is often far more legitimate than Clara Harris'. Does Barreca also feel it would be "great revenge" for these men to murder their wives?

No type of marital or post-marital violence should ever be condoned, much less praised, and Psychology Today should immediately and clearly distance itself from Barreca's reprehensible statements.
